I knew what it really was: "how do we blame the operator when things go wrong".

I don't miss operating a bus, back in the 70's when I started, the job was respected. Now bus drivers are objects of scorn and fault. Mostly management has taken a adversarial role to their employees, basically to protect their own asses.

These 're-certification' classes came out of the Sandi Day incident and it is nothing more than a way to point fingers at the operators rather than making institutional changes that can actually enhance safety and make the job of bus driver easy!

KEEP ON WRITING DEACON!ALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10673741176533140349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1653698584448495601.post-20562537744895064782015-11-20T12:14:02.982-08:002015-11-20T12:14:02.982-08:00We know everything to drive safe. We have practice...We know everything to drive safe. We have practiced everything to drive safe. The reality is operating a bus or a train is really far more then a human brain can do 100 % of everything. Operating is more of management. You're eyes and ears take in information and your brain brings to our attention what it thinks need the most attention. As highly skilled operators we reconise and know even more then drivers where we need to be looking and concentrating our attention. With all that is thrown at us and just how few problems and accidents we have is a true testament to our training, practice and skills. The check rides I always welcomed because being human we like to cut corners. I enjoyed your essay. I miss operating so much and wish I could be back on the job. I enjoyed being behind the wheel of the bus. I never wanted to go to rail. I enjoyed my time in the driver seat.Lokihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16532863792762128660noreply@blogger.com
