Anemic Poll Results

A while back, my dear readers, you were asked to vote in a poll. It was designed to A) discern which entry was your favorite; B) to get a glimpse at what is most entertaining to you; and C) to provide a bit of an ego boost for yours truly.

Results are in. A whopping eight (8) of you voted on the choices provided! The two leaders were 'Twitterpating' and 'Other'. Since there was no way for you to pencil in which 'Other' you voted for, these choices will remain a mystery. Each garnered a blistering three (3) votes!

Since the results were miniscule in number, the Deacon's ego took a major shot. Of course, if you don't use a computer, even finding the poll was a challenge; it doesn't appear on tablet or "smart" phone screens. Until this blog space gets more creative in making "gadgets" easier to use for all, polls won't really serve their intended purpose. However, please leave comments on the blog itself or on my buddy's FaceBook page. He has been ever so kind as to publicize this exercise, and your comments are read and appreciated. In addition, there is ONE "follower" of this blog, so if you want to keep up-to-date on new entries please become a regular.

At this time, there have been 5,417 "hits" here. Each one encourages me to continue writing, and the number has substantially increased in the past two months. This itself is cause for the Deacon to celebrate, because he hasn't had this kind of readership since he began writing 30+ years ago.

For some bus operators, after driving the "beast" for an entire day, the last thing they want to do is read about it. They would rather "fuhgeddaboudit", so to you fellow drivers I give an even more enthusiastic "THANK YOU" for being here.

Truly, I thank each of you for taking the time out of your busy day every few weeks to peruse these lines. I hope to keep finding topics that interest you enough to continue reading. For now, it's time to head back out, to keep all 6 on the road, and to do my part to keep this metropolis rolling.

  1. Hey Deacon, you're right. The polls don't show up in my Android or I word have surely participated. I barely get time to check email at home so you are a bookmark on my smartphone. I check probably 3 times a week (sometimes more, rarely less) for new content and always enjoy what you dispatch. It reminds me of me "back in the day".

You keep plugging away. I enjoy reading them and 5500 hits thus far isn't shabby. You're stories are a nice presentation of what goes thru an operators mind, especially since one of our favorite bloggers has opted to stop writing while he preps his book. Keep up the good work.

  2. Right on, brother Deacon. Don't let the participation discourage you, it is the 'hits' or 'page views' that is the measure of our respective reach out into the community. You're doing a great job, and are an inspiration to the rest of us. Please keep 'em coming.

    1. My brotha from anotha mutha, you rampant cat!! Thanks for the encouragement. I guess Iworry too much what people think sometimes. I've noticed that those who do read the blog are usually incognito, which means I can't expect much in the way of feedback. So I'm working on another entry, but I'm a perfectionist. I'm also thinking of "letting the cat out of the bag" on the Deacon's 1st Blog Anniversary. I've read a few other blogs, and if THEY don't mind their names "out there", why should I care? Whaddya think: is the pseudonym just a copout?

  3. The blog I mentioned in the first comment: The Roll Easy Blog by Dan Christiansen. I give him a real hard time whenever I see him in person about how much I miss his posts; if you haven't read it yet, it would be worth your while to read it. Its a good read, one of the best if not the best read out there.

    1. I read the REB, and I found it highly entertaining! As a writer though, I sometimes avoid reading another's work, as a matter of keeping my material fresh. But Dan does a nice job. He writes more often than i do, but that's because I take so damn long to produce an entry due to rampant perfectionism. I'm also a long-winded sonofagun so the editing takes time as well. Anyway, thank you for the kind words, and keep on readin', my ego LOVES it. ;)

  4. No...Dan USED to write more than you do. Now that he's prepping for his book (ya know, hiring an agent...book tours...Comedy Central...Colbert Report...Moda Center, the little stuff), he doesn't have time to write on his blog anymore. (Yup, still bustin his chops, lol) So you are the only "active" TM writer out right now. As for the incognito part; I'd have to say that when I first started I was worried until I got off probation. Then I felt safe "voicing my two cents" with my name attached to it. Now with all the doublespeak going on with negotiations going on, folks are gettin nervous again to speak their mind with their names attached. I'd personally hold off on "the grand announcement". But, that's just me.

    2. Well if Dan's book is half as good as his blog writing and stand up act, it's gonna become a best seller for Powell's.

      What is your book about?

    3. Sorry, I consider it bad luck to tell people what it's about. Just a story about some guy. ;o)
